About Anita
Anita Vachharajani is a Sahitya Akademi award winning author who lives in Mumbai, India. She has a Masters in English Literature and in Linguistics. Her book, Amrita Sher-Gil: Rebel with a Paintbrush, won the Sahitya Akademi, Bal Sahitya Puraskar Award, English, 2021. The book also represented India in the writing category in the The International Board of Books for the Young (IBBY) Honor List for Writing, 2020. The books in the list were presented at the biennial IBBY Congress, Moscow, 2020, and will be housed in the permanent collections of seven international libraries.
Anita has written newspaper columns and book reviews. Her stories for children have appeared in The Puffin Book of Bedtime Stories, The Puffin Book of Spooky Ghost Stories, and in various picture books, like Nonie's Magic Quilt, Ambili, Nayana and the Not-so-scary Owl and Tara Tambe. She has collaborated with her husband Amit Vachharajani on Amazing India: A State-by-State Guide, a pictorial description of the 29 states of India.
Her translations of traditional rhymes feature in The Tenth Rasa: the Penguin Book of Indian Nonsense Verse. She has also translated Abid Surti's Hindi rendition of Gijubhai Badheka's stories and nonsense verse for children from Hindi to English for Pratham Books.
